When I met Jack and Eric, it was at Teespring where Eric was one of the first engineering hires and Jack was on the growth team. Fuel invested in Teespring and I was working out of their office as it scaled from 10 to 300 people in just under two years. Jack moved from the growth team to running partnerships and business development, and I saw first hand his ability to execute. Eric continued to make Teespring scale through its meteoric growth. After two years at the company, Jack started getting the itch to found a business, and as a friends-and-family round of funding came together, I jumped at the chance to work with the team.
The original idea Jack and Eric raised money for was a pharmacy benefits management platform. But after a few short months, they figured out they weren't passionate about building a pharmacy business and quickly pivoted. Their hearts were instead focused on a pain they recently experienced -- in a high growth, high stress startup environment, how do you create better processes and tools for managing employees so that they're super productive and happy? The idea for Lattice was born.
Jack and Eric believe that people aren't motivated by Kind Bars and ping pong tables; they are motivated by a clear mission and goals, creating an environment of growth, and finding coworkers who are striving to make themselves and each other better.
Lattice's goal-setting product aligns goals across a company's team and individuals to make sure everyone is rowing in the same direction. Performance reviews give employees and managers an engaging and easy to fill out format while giving administrators the flexibility and customization to capture the most important information and track it over time. Also, check-ins that are a once-a-week Q&A product between employees and managers provide better transparency and useful suggestions for teammates' work.
The company now has a full suite of products and hundreds of customers using their product including Glossier, Slice, CircleCI, Boosted, Gitlab, Coinbase, WePay, OpenAI and more. We are excited to be an investor with this team, as they reshape the future of work.
